New Life CenterWeek 6 of Table Talk Lenten Study The CLP Missions Committee Liaison to New Life Center is Jane Holdcroft. The mission statement of the New Life Center is, “Saving lives, building futures, empowering women and children escaping domestic violence.” New Life Center is one of our local missions supported by The Church at Litchfield Park. The New Life Center opened in 1991 in an abandoned dormitory hidden away on the grounds of the Wigwam Resort. It was the first domestic violence shelter in the West Valley. It offered eight beds and most importantly, safety and compassion for families fleeing their homes as victims of domestic violence. Three decades later, New Life Center, located in Goodyear, has grown into the largest residential shelter in Maricopa County and one of the largest in the nation with 104 beds. The buildings now are in a casita setting so families with teenage boys are able to reside there, too. The residents may stay as long as 120 days if so needed. Within the New Life Center, there are advocates who help the residents with bilingual services, employment assessment, GED support, housing assistance, and meals. It is a safe place for parents to grow, learn, and positively interact with their children. The children attend public schools and are given learning opportunities utilizing positive reinforcement for achievement and growth. In addition to the center, they also have Hope’s Closet, a thrift store open to the public. It is owned and operated by the New Life Center. All profits from Hopes Closet go to the center. Every child and adult seeking refuge has access to the clothing and furnishings offered at the store completely free of charge. The center offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for groups and individuals. In 2022, New Life Center offered 17,950 safe bed nights, 1.062 individuals were served through shelter, outreach, and 24-hour hotline, and 27,849 meals were served at the shelter during this year. One way our church helps is with the Towel Project four times a year. Towels are purchased, and inside of them are wrapped personal care items so when the mothers and children arrive, they each receive one of these gifts.
