Revelation 6:1-8 and 7:9-17 - Monday, August 7, 2023

Dear Church at Litchfield Park family,

Yesterday, we explored the message found in Revelation 6:1-8 and 7:9-17 (NIV). These passages provide us with glimpses of both the earthly tribulations and the heavenly worship that lies ahead.

Revelation 6:1-8 depicts the opening of the first four seals, revealing the infamous Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. These symbolic figures represent conquest, war, famine, and death. The imagery is intense, serving as a reminder that our world is often filled with hardship and suffering.

However, amidst the turmoil described in the first part, Revelation 7:9-17 unveils a contrasting scene of heavenly bliss. John witnesses a vast multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language, standing before the throne and the Lamb. They are clothed in white robes, symbolizing purity and victory, and they hold palm branches, signifying triumph and celebration. The heavenly beings and the redeemed join together in worship, proclaiming salvation and glory to God.

Here are some questions to guide our reflections on these powerful passages:

  • As we consider the vivid imagery of the four horsemen and what they represent, what comfort can we find in knowing that God is in control even in the midst of challenging times?
  • As we consider the heavenly multitude from diverse backgrounds, how can we embrace and celebrate the unity and diversity within our own church community and the broader body of Christ?
  • In times of hardship and tribulation, how can we find hope and solace in the promise of God's ultimate deliverance and redemption?
  • What lessons can we draw from the worship and adoration of the heavenly multitude? How can we cultivate a deeper sense of worship and reverence for God in our own lives?

As we reflect on these questions, may the Holy Spirit guide us into a deeper understanding of God's Word. May we find hope and encouragement in the assurance that God's sovereignty reigns over all circumstances. Let us rejoice in the diversity and unity within the body of Christ and look forward to the day when we will stand before the throne, joining the heavenly multitude in eternal worship.

May our lives be a testimony to God's love and redemption as we eagerly await the triumphant return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Secret of Kells - Friday, August 11, 2023

Join your church family for August's Family Movie Night, where we'll enjoy hot dogs and popcorn while we watch The Secret of Kells.

In the remote Irish woods, Cellach (Brendan Gleeson) prepares a fortress for an impending attack by a Viking war party. Unbeknown to Cellach, his young nephew Brendan (Evan McGuire) -- who has no taste for battle -- works secretly as an apprentice in the scriptorium of the local monastery, learning the ancient art of calligraphy. As the Vikings approach, revered illuminator Aidan (Mick Lally) arrives at the monastery and recruits Brendan to complete a series of dangerous, magical tasks.

This movie is ideal for children 9+. Find out more about this rating here: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-reviews/the-secret-of-kells

Stewardship Moment

Stewardship Moment

by Chris Martin

Many churches only talk of stewardship in the fall when the annual pledge drive begins, equating “stewardship” to “financial giving.” But stewardship is so much more! Let’s broaden the “stewardship” scope to focus on management or oversight, as in the duty of watching or guarding for the sake of proper direction and control.

Management and oversight of our church properties, our ministries, our reputation in the community, our future growth, our staff, and our congregation is every bit as vital as management of our financial resources. Let’s constantly evaluate and improve how we present ourselves to the community, to visitors and potential members, to community organizations who utilize our facilities, and to our own church family. Each person who contacts, sees or visits our church instantly forms their own first impression, and we only get one chance to make a great first impression. Here’s how:

Be aware of those who may be visiting for the first time and offer your hand in welcome. Step out in faith and speak to someone you don’t know during coffee fellowship. Volunteer in a ministry or activity you haven’t tried before.

Everyone can help us become the church God wants us to be by offering your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service, not just in the fall but throughout the year. Everyone in the church can be a “Director of First Impressions!”
