January 15: God's Promise of Jesus
|
Jesus is tempted and stays steadfast
In CLP Kids, we read Matthew 4:1-17 together and talked about how Jesus prepared for his ministry after he was baptized by praying and fasting for 40 days. 40 days is a long time to go without food! While Jesus was fasting and praying, the devil tried to tempt Jesus and get him to sin. Knowing that Jesus was in a human body that needed food, Satan tried to tempt him by saying if He was really the son of God he could turn stones into bread. It is true, Jesus could have but instead, Jesus reminded Satan that God says there is more to life than bread. Satan then took Jesus to the highest spot on the temple and tried to get Jesus to jump because scripture said the angels would catch Him. Jesus could have chosen to do that but instead, He refused and reminded Satan that scripture says to NOT test the LORD, your God. Finally, Satan thought he could tempt Jesus with power and took Him to overlook all the kingdoms of the world and he offered him control if he bowed down and worshipped Satan. Once again, Jesus rebuked Satan and Satan fled. Over and over again Satan tried to tempt Jesus by saying, "If you are really the son of God..." use that power to get what YOU want but the devil didn't fool Jesus. Every time that Satan tried to tempt Jesus, Jesus used scripture to challenge him and win. For more infomation visit:

Pray!
Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus, and thank You for the Bible that teaches, guides, confronts, and encourages. Thank You for giving us the Holy Spirit that guides us from the inside. Please help us to listen and follow the Spirit's guidance. When I am tempted to make bad choices, Holy Spirit, guide me to God's Word so that I can turn away from sin and temptation. Be with each of us, reminding us of your presence and promise. May everything we do, say, and think point others towards You and Your great love for us. Amen! |
