Hello, Church at Litchfield Park family!

Continuing our exploration of the book of Revelation, today we'll delve into Revelation 2:12-17 (NIV). This passage contains a message from Jesus to the church in Pergamum. Let's read it together:

"To the angel of the church in Pergamum write:

These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword. I know where you live—where Satan has his throne. Yet you remain true to my name. You did not renounce your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was put to death in your city—where Satan lives.

Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ate food sacrificed to idols and committed sexual immorality. Likewise, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. Repent, therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it."

This message to the church in Pergamum holds valuable insights and challenges for us as followers of Christ. Let's take a moment to reflect on this passage and consider its application in our lives. As you engage with this text, I encourage you to ponder the following questions:

  1. Despite living in a place where Satan's influence is strong, the church in Pergamum remained faithful to Jesus. Pastor Lynne shared some of these negative influences in Pergamum. What are some of the things in our culture that might communicate what our culture values? How can we stand firm in our faith even when surrounded by opposition or challenges?

  2. Jesus rebukes the church for tolerating false teachings and compromising with worldly practices. In what ways do we see this temptation in our own life or within the church today? How can we guard against compromising our faith and remain faithful to God's truth?

  3. Jesus promises hidden manna and a white stone with a new name to the one who is victorious. What do you think these symbolic rewards represent? How can we strive for victory in our walk with Christ and eagerly anticipate the eternal rewards He has in store for us?

As you prayerfully consider these questions, may the Holy Spirit illuminate God's Word and guide you into a deeper understanding of its significance in your life. May you find encouragement to remain faithful to Jesus, even in challenging circumstances, and may you be discerning in identifying and resisting false teachings. May your pursuit of victory lead you to a closer relationship with God and a greater anticipation of the blessings He has prepared for you.

May you continue to grow in wisdom and grace, and may your faith shine brightly as a testimony to the power and love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
